What happens when you combine water, oil, and food coloring to make your own paper?
A little bit of science creates some seriously beautiful results! ✨
In this video, I'm making marbled paper using oil, water, food coloring, and paper. The oil and water resist each other, allowing the food coloring to create unpredictable patterns and gorgeous little pockets of color.
The finished paper has a beautiful slightly transparent, almost dreamy quality, and I love how every sheet turns out completely different.
It's a super simple process, but it is a little messy—and the paper does need some time to dry because of the oil. Once it's dry, though, you have some really interesting handmade paper to use for art journaling, collage, mixed media, altered books, tags, cards, and so much more.
I love processes like this because you don't have to know exactly what you're going to get. You just play, experiment, and see what happens.
