Six hours of driving with absolutely nothing in the trailer.

We start the day in Hotchkiss, Colorado, where it’s finally time to unload the load of Washington apples we’ve been hauling down for juice production.

Once the apples are off, you’d think we’d have another load nearby.

Nope.

Instead, we’ve got roughly a six-hour deadhead ahead of us to get positioned for our next load.

So with an empty belt trailer behind the Peterbilt, we start making our way from western Colorado toward Grantsville, Utah, where we’re headed to pick up another load of road salt.

It’s a long day with a whole lot of empty miles, but that’s part of trucking. Sometimes the next load isn’t conveniently waiting 20 miles down the road.
