Did Germany copy the flag of Belgium?
See the Belgian flag was adopted in the 1830s after its independence from the Netherlands, and the flag is simply based on the coat of arms of the historical state of Brabant. Now the German flag is certainly newer but was it stolen from Belgium.
Well in 1848 the German Revolution happened. The revolutionaries wanted to form a democratic German state, and they used this tricolor to represent themselves. The revolution of course, failed. However it did succeed in making this tricolor the symbol of German democracy.
Meaning modern Germany just adopted its own historical flag rather than stealing the flag of Belgium.
