RAM is now so valuable people are pulling off straight up memory heists
A Bonnie and Clyde style duo in China recently went around boosting RAM sticks from gaming PC’s stationed in special eSports hotels where the guests use the computers for League of Legends or whatever else yinz like to yell at each other on the internet over
Partners Li and Cheng went around yoinking a total of 16 sticks of RAM before selling them for around the equivalent of 2000ish US dollars - and if that doesn’t seem like a lot, it’s because it’s not - depending on the capacity of those sticks they could’ve probably made more money than that
They were pretty quickly tracked down because whichever rooms they hit were immediately complained about by the following guest because, without RAM, the PC’s wouldn’t boot - yes, they kept taking BOTH sticks
Chinese media outlets also call the incidents quote “frenzied hotel room-dismantling” - which might just be a translation issue, it’s not clear whether or not they trashed the places - but we DO know that both Li and Cheng are now in custody and the RAMmy Bandits won’t be striking again
