Hunting jobs is hard and uncomfortable but required to find good opportunities. If you find a mutual connection, reach out and ask for an introduction. If that doesn't work, find people at the company with similar job titles and ask for a call to learn more about the company and their job. This provides you with good information about the firm as well as builds a network connection. After a call I send a "thank you" message and thank them for the information as well as ask for any leads that might be hiring at the firm. This approach tends to find jobs that weren't posted online or gets you in front of real people that are hiring. This increases your odds at find a job compared to just applying online.
