In this episode of the Copart MG3 repair series, I’m having another go at the blue front wing paint match — this time using white primer, MG blue base coat and a can of ProXL 2K clear lacquer to see if I can get a proper glossy finish from a DIY home garage paint job.
The colour match still had me second guessing myself, but once the wing was bolted back onto the car and polished up, the finish was surprisingly good. Is it absolutely perfect? Maybe not. Is it close enough for a driveway repair on a Copart bargain? I reckon so!
This 2025 MG3 started as a lightly damaged Copart car, bought for £1,800, and the mission has been to repair it as cheaply as possible without sending it off to a body shop. In this video I remove the wing, repaint it, test out 2K lacquer, refit the panel, sort a small headlight bracket repair, transfer the VIN sticker, and get the car looking finished and ready for sale.
Not a professional body shop job — just DIY tools, Halfords supplies, a bit of trial and error, and far too much optimism.
If you enjoy salvage rebuilds, Copart projects, cheap car repairs, DIY paintwork and seeing whether an amateur can make a damaged car look decent again, make sure you subscribe.
