But today, I want to talk about something a little more important.
Because I think the Pokémon hobby is in one of the worst places it has ever been.
Product is hard to find.
Prices are out of control.
Anybody else get a 14 hour wait time in the delta reign drop? Yeah.
People are buying cases not because they want to open them, collect them, or play the game, but because they believe somebody else will pay more for them later.
And the harder product becomes to find, the more profitable that behavior becomes.
That creates a cycle.
Scarcity creates profit.
Profit attracts more speculation.
Speculation creates more scarcity.
And eventually, the people who actually love the hobby are the ones fighting over whatever is left.
I don’t think collectors can fix that cycle by ourselves.
As long as every product sells out instantly, the system has no reason to change on its own.
That means The Pokémon Company has to be part of the solution.
And to their credit, they have taken steps.
They’ve increased production.
They’ve reprinted products.
They’ve experimented with purchase limits.
But these are a bare minimum that could honestly also be seen as them trying to make more money with more product. At this point, it’s just a slap in the face to their base. It would be so easy for them to stop this.
And if we want them to take that seriously, we have to show them that this is not a handful of angry people complaining on the internet.
We have to show them that there is a large group of collectors, players, parents, store owners, and lifelong Pokémon fans who want something better.
Because a hobby should reward the people who participate in it.
Not just the people who can buy the most product the fastest.
Collecting should not feel like competing against an investment market every single time a new set releases.
There is a difference between something being collectible...
and something being intentionally difficult to participate in.
There is a difference between rarity...
and exclusion.
And there is a difference between a healthy secondary market...
and a market where scarcity itself becomes the product.
That is why I put together a 16-point, roughly 3,000-word petition directed at The Pokémon Company and The Pokémon Company International.
And I need your help.
Today, I’m going to walk through some of the most important points in that petition, explain why I think they matter, and talk about what Pokémon could realistically do to make this hobby healthier.
But I also want you to read the petition yourself.
Take a few minutes.
If you agree with it, sign it. Make your voice heard.
Leave a comment explaining what has frustrated you about the hobby.
And if you’re comfortable doing it, say roughly how much you spend on Pokémon products in a year.
Because this is still a business.
The number of signatures matters.
But being able to show that those signatures represent thousands of real customers and potentially millions of dollars in annual spending?
That gets attention.
This cannot just be another petition that gets a few hundred signatures and disappears.
If this is going to matter, it needs to become something bigger.
It needs to become a message that is impossible to mistake:
We love this hobby.
We want it to succeed.
And we want it to remain a hobby that normal people can actually participate in.
So share the petition.
Send it to collectors.
Send it to local card shops.
Send it to creators.
And yes, we are going to need support from some of the bigger voices in the hobby too.
But a movement does not start when the biggest person decides to join it.
It starts when enough ordinary people decide that something is worth saying out loud.
And if enough of us say the same thing at the same time, eventually somebody has to listen.
We are asking them to make collecting Pokémon more rewarding than speculating on Pokémon.
Because this hobby should belong to the people who love it.
And if we care about where it goes next, then this is the time to say something.
This is how we fight back.
So to the pokemon company. Do you want to be remembered by the children of today, and the people who grew up with you, who got you to where you are today, as the company that got bested by your own success and forgot about your base? Or do you want to be remembered as the company that stepped in and stood up for your fans when things got out of hand?
Go ahead and subscribe to the channel for updates and let’s get into the petition.
