The new Apple TV 4K 4th Gen (2026) is finally happening! In this video, I break down everything we know about Apple’s next-gen Apple TV 4K, including its expected design, potential specs and upgrades, pricing, Thread networking, tvOS 27 support, HDMI passthrough, and how it could fit into Apple’s broader smart-home strategy.
Apple appears to be preparing much more than just a new Apple TV. We’re also expecting major developments across the Apple Home ecosystem, including a new smart-home display/hub, updated HomePod mini models, smarter Siri and Apple Intelligence features, and potentially a much larger lineup of compatible smart-home accessories.
While the Apple TV 4K 4th generation may look familiar on the outside, the biggest changes could be happening inside. Rather than a dramatic redesign, this generation is expected to focus heavily on performance, connectivity, and Apple’s expanding smart-home ecosystem.
I also discuss why Apple dropping older Apple TV models with tvOS 27 could be an important clue, what Thread means for Apple TV, the possibility of HDMI passthrough, Apple’s changing Apple TV subscription strategy, and what Apple needs to get right if it wants Apple Home to compete seriously in the smart-home market.

The new Apple TV could ultimately be only one piece of a much larger Apple Home overhaul. Apple’s rumored smart-home hub is expected to feature a roughly 6-inch square display and may come in wall-mounted and tabletop configurations. Apple is also reportedly developing new smart-home products and partnerships involving categories such as locks, cameras, and thermostats.
Updated HomePod mini hardware could also play an important role, with improved connectivity and hardware potentially helping support Apple’s next generation of Siri and smart-home experiences.
For Apple’s smart-home push to really succeed, though, I think two things will matter more than anything else: competitive pricing and a dramatically better Siri experience.
What do you want to see Apple add to the Apple TV 4K 4th Gen? And would you upgrade from the current Apple TV 4K?
