A South Florida man says he lost tens of thousands of dollars in what police say appears to be a sophisticated scam.

Michael Vaughan of Palm Beach Gardens says it started with a text offering a part-time work-from-home job.

He says the job was simple: click online ads for hotels and vacation resorts to help promote them on social media and get paid.

But then the scammers told him he had to send his own money first to unlock his earnings. Vaughan says he kept paying, believing he'd get it back. Instead, he lost about $34,000 and only recovered around $500. He says the scammers were pretending to be the legitimate travel company Klook Technology.
