Scott Galloway tells young people to get back in the office. A viewer posted the other side of that deal: her boss is on a grandfathered COVID remote schedule, she sees her twice a month, and the only people in the office are the new young hires. Rules for thee, not for me.

Galloway's position is on the record: in 2023 he told Gen Z that "home is for seven hours of sleep, and that's it" and that young people should be at the office making connections (Fortune, linked below). My read is that return to office has less to do with mentorship than with buildings somebody already paid for. I think it services Mark Zuckerberg's building loans and yachts. I saw one of his yachts in Seattle, and it had a boat docked to it.

Then my own story. As director of engineering at Amex, with about 100 people under my remit and a half-million-dollar salary, I had no office. It was hot desking. I spent maybe two to three hours a day hunting for an open meeting room so I could take calls about performance and budgets. Viewers from Salesforce and elsewhere shared the same thing, and I talk about going from fully remote to fully in office as someone on the spectrum: the noise, the 20 pounds I put on, and why open offices are hostile to neurodivergent people.
