Summer has arrived at Longmeadow, bringing a mix of bright sunshine and heavy rain that leaves the garden looking lush but prone to flopping. Monty Don shares his techniques for propping up plants naturally using chestnut hurdles to keep the paths clear without losing that wild summer look. This episode travels to Oxfordshire to see how an ecologist has turned a standard allotment into a thriving haven for foxes, hedgehogs, and rare bees. The journey continues to Cornwall for a very personal tour of singer Will Young’s family home. He shares how gardening became a vital part of his recovery and daily routine, helping him manage anxiety through the simple, grounding act of nurturing seeds and feeling the soil. Back in the garden, we look at the art of summer containers, showing how to layer plants like a painting to create a massive impact in even the smallest spaces. Whether you are harvesting sweet corn with the "boiling water" rule or cutting back geraniums to make room for late-summer color, this is about embracing the peak of the season.
