Homemaking is often the work you notice the least when it’s being done well, but notice very quickly when it isn’t. After coming home from vacation to an empty refrigerator, piles of laundry, messy floors, and an 81° house, I was reminded just how much quiet work goes into keeping a home running.

Today I’m unpacking from our family vacation, doing laundry, cleaning the house, restocking the kitchen, arranging fresh cut flowers, and making dinner while talking about why I believe homemaking is such important work.

So much of homemaking happens behind the scenes. The clean clothes, stocked refrigerator, made beds, meals on the table, and comfortable home we often take for granted are the result of countless small things being done day after day. And although that work can go unnoticed, I don’t think that makes it any less valuable.

This is a realistic look at homemaking, motherhood, and the everyday work that keeps our family and home running.
