This Dungeon Nearly Broke Us | Wailing Caverns, WoW: Forever

Wailing Caverns, the dungeon that everybody has an opinion about, and it took us an hour and fifty two minutes. Somebody in the group had told a player who needed to sleep that it would be about forty minutes. He was wrong.

This is the second dungeon I have run for the people watching who have never played World of Warcraft, and honestly it is a better example than the first one, because everything that can go sideways in a group dungeon went sideways here. A pull that dragged an entire room because the mobs called for help. A boss that reset in the middle of the fight. Lady Anacondra putting half of us to sleep on repeat. Two extra Druids of the Fang appearing out of nowhere. And our paladin healer at level 16 with exactly one heal spell, which costs a fifth of his mana bar every cast.

We lost players partway and brought in a level 20 druid, and the difference in damage was immediate and a little bit insulting.

If you are new to this: there is a lot of practical stuff in here. Sap only works out of combat, and not on bosses. Higher level enemies see straight through stealth. Aggro ranges in this place are enormous and vary by level, which is why entire rooms keep arriving at once. And the serpent bloom everyone is hunting is the slightly red herb.

It finishes the way Wailing Caverns always finishes: the escort, walking Naralex through at the slowest pace in gaming, while five grown adults beg him to move faster. Then Mutanus, then it is done, and then a proper argument about whether this dungeon is any good. I like it. The rest of the group would rather run Deadmines.

More dungeons on the way. If you want to come along for one, say so in the comments.
