This week on our off grid build in rural Wales, we make huge progress as almost all of the roof rafters go up, bringing us one step closer to being watertight. After months of preparation, the shape of the building is really starting to come together.

We also welcome our stone masons onto site as they begin the careful process of sorting and facing the original stone, ready for rebuilding the walls. Seeing the traditional craftsmanship return to the barn is something we’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

Outside, we start transforming the land around the barn by planting our first clover and wildflower lawn — a small step towards creating a more natural and wildlife-friendly space around our future home.

Meanwhile, work continues on our off grid infrastructure as we make further progress with the installation of our Graf sewage treatment system, getting another important part of our self-sufficient home completed.

This project is all about us creating an energy-efficient, off grid home in Mid Wales while preserving as much of the original character and materials as possible.

Thanks for following along with our journey!
