Most people have no real plan to heat their home without electricity. If the power goes out, propane runs low, or fuel becomes hard to get, firewood becomes more than a homestead chore. It becomes backup heat, cooking fuel, and real preparedness.

In this video, Jason Salyer with ON Three Survival cuts up a 70 year old oak tree, deals with a pinched chainsaw bar, splits wet firewood by hand, and talks through why alternative fuels for the homestead still matter.

Chainsaws and wood splitters are great while they work, but they still depend on fuel, maintenance, parts, and timing. Old school tools like axes, splitting mauls, crosscut saws, and handsaws still matter because they are simple, repairable, and powered by your own body.

This is real homestead firewood production: cutting, splitting, stacking, drying, chainsaw maintenance, axe work, backup heat, alternative fuels, and winter preparedness.

After storms like Hurricane Helene, a lot of families learned quickly that heat, cooking, fuel, tools, fitness, and community matter. This is not about fear. It is about being useful, capable, and prepared before the next storm or power outage.

Jason Salyer has decades of experience in survival, preparedness, outdoor skills, fitness, and self reliance. ON Three Survival is about practical skills that still work in real life.
